A city student with a passion for animal welfare is preparing to throw herself from a plane at 10,000ft.

Lily Alderton, 16, studies at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form and hopes to become a veterinary physiotherapist.

The dog lover is all too aware of the heartbreak caused by losing a pet and the abuse that animals face across the world daily.

As the owner of two dogs, a German Shepherd and a Kokoni, Lily has decided to turn her passion into activism for global animal welfare charity Four Paws through a sponsored skydive.

She said: ‘‘By supporting this charity you are actively seeking a better world for our pets as well as the welfare of wild animals such as lions or tigers who can often be overlooked.’’

Four Paws focuses on issues including the illegal trade of tigers across Europe and the cat and dog meat trade in Asia.

Lily added: ‘‘I feel like with a skydive, it’s either go big or go home."

She plans to jump with Skyline Skydiving at Beccles Airfield on May 30 and has raised £350 of her £500 target on her JustGiving page.
