A private city dentist could be taking on new patients soon after it was given the go ahead to expand and convert a ground floor flat into a new surgery.

Andrew Brown Dental Surgery in Hall Road applied to Norwich City Council on January 26 to convert the adjoining two-bedroom flat next to its current premises into two new examination rooms.

On March 21, Norwich City Council approved the proposal despite one public objection concerning the "unpleasant odour" due to the location of the practice's three large waste bins at the entrance to the nearby houses.

The surgery currently occupies the building at 90 Hall Road but will now be able to knock a wall through to 88a, expanding the premises by 340 square metres.

With the proposal approved it will allow the practitioner to employ a new member of staff and move two of the part-time trainee nurses into full-time work.

Masoud Shahram, the practice's clinical director, said while the practice has an NHS contract, it is "very small" and would likely not result in many more NHS patient spaces.
