A particularly sweet Easter treat is on offer at a Norwich Market chippy.

Lucy's, which has had a stall on the market for more than 40 years, is offering deep-fried Creme Eggs.

The battered chocolate eggs follow haggis, sprouts, birthday cake, mince pies and popcorn cockles among the special edition offerings of the stall.

Barclay Gray, owner of Lucy's said: "We thought it would be a great idea for the Easter holidays, so we've been testing it out a lot in the fryers.

"We can't leave them in too long or they melt and become a mess!"

Lucy's is putting the sugary delicacy on sale from Good Friday for the two weeks of the Easter holidays.

Ahead of the deep-fried Creme Eggs going on sale, we went down to the market to see if they will prove a hit.

Review

The deep-fried Creme Egg sample I tasted was a great balance of sweet chocolate and savoury batter.

While the treat was undeniably greasy and messy to eat, it was ultimately the perfect Easter snack.

It was a cool snack that did not have to rely upon extra heat to improve either its taste or the quality of its texture. Any additional heat may have lessened its quality.

It feels safe to say that Lucy’s deep-fried Creme Egg will be especially popular among children and possibly teenagers.

Either way, I would highly recommend that locals take advantage of these two weeks to buy this snack before the Easter holidays finish.

Five out of five.
