Further traffic disruption is expected this month as a road near Norwich will be closed to lay miles of power cables for an offshore wind farm.

Colney Lane in Hethersett is set for a full 10-day closure from March 26 to allow Danish energy firm Orsted to build access points for the £8 billion Hornsea Three turbine field project

The closure comes amid preparation work being carried out by the firm to lay 33 miles of power cables through the Norfolk countryside which will connect the 231-turbine farm to a primary substation based in Swardeston.

The cables, which are being laid into open trenches before being covered up again, will run westward beneath Norwich before heading north towards Weybourne on the coast.

According to Orsted, the Colney Lane access point will allow construction traffic to work on the cables in the area via the public road system.

The lane will be closed from 8.30am on March 26 to 4.30pm on April 4, during which time there will be "low-level noise" from machinery in the work site.

A diversion will direct traffic through Burnthouse Lane, School Lane, Green Lane, the B1108 Watton Road, Hethersett Lane, Harness Maker Way and the sections of Colney Lane which will remain open.
