A city pizza business has closed after being handed a one-star food hygiene rating.

Pizza Canvas, based in Middletons Lane, Hellesdon, has been told "major improvement" is necessary following its inspection by Broadland District Council on February 1.

Food safety officers found the business fell short in its management of food safety - meaning its systems and checks in place to ensure produce is safe to eat were well below expectation.

Improvement was also needed when it came to the hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

However, inspectors rated the cleanliness and condition of Pizza Canvas' facilities as 'good'.

Days after the publication of the hygiene report, the business announced on social media that it would be closing.

No specific details about the closure - including the length of time it would be shut - have yet been announced.

Multiple attempts were made to contact Pizza Canvas about the food hygiene report.

The business was opened in a freshly renovated trailer in August 2022 by business partners Behar Kamberi and Klajdi Zela at a pitch at the Jet garage in Middletons Lane

Offering 25 toppings, the trailer allowed the business to offer catering at events.
