A city mum has been left fuming after her kitchen was flooded amid her complaints about leaky pipes and mould problems.

Sophie Moore moved to Hellesdon two and a half years ago with her two daughters, aged three and six.

However, the 24-year-old is frustrated with housing association Clarion for the way it has handled the leaking issue in her home, causing mould and rendering her cupboards useless.

The issue came to a head last month when the mum-of-two was able to film a video of a huge leak under her sink that flooded her kitchen.

Sophie said: "The mould's been bad ever since we moved in but on February 5 I came home from work and my entire kitchen was flooded.

"The cupboard pipe linked to the sink had been leaking for a long time - it was absolutely ridiculous.

"I haven't been able to have food in the cupboard as it just goes mouldy and it stinks to high heaven.

"It's still leaking so I have to have a bowl under there and I can feel the water under the flooring because it’s leaked so much.

"Clarion has come round and put mould wash on it but that didn't work and they also said I needed a new extractor fan - but it's fine.

"I've been told they'd be putting in insulation behind the backing board, but I spoke to an independent builder who said it'll make it sweaty there and is just going to create more mould."

The issues have become so bad that Sophie is looking to move elsewhere to get "a better life".

Sophie added: "Me and my children have to live like this every day and I’ve gone to everyone I can to help, but I’ve not got anywhere with it.

"I’ve just given up reporting now because nothing seems to get done and I'm looking to move me and my children, so we can have a better life and get away from all this, but I shouldn't have to.

"I can't believe they think it’s acceptable for us to live in these conditions."

Clarion's response

A Clarion spokeswoman said: "We're very sorry Ms Moore has been having damp and mould issues in her kitchen.

"Clarion takes issues of damp and mould in our properties very seriously and our local teams have been working hard to offer solutions to the problem.

"We were first made aware of a leak in the kitchen in August 2023 and a mould treatment was scheduled.

"During that inspection the affected area was found to be limited and once this was treated no further work was scheduled and Ms Moore was advised a kitchen replacement wasn't needed.

"Ms Moore reached out again for further updates and surveyors visited recommending a new environment fan and insulation behind units to be fitted in order to reduce moisture.

"These works were scheduled but subsequently turned down by Ms Moore.

"Local teams also repaired various leaks to the kitchen sink pipework with the components cleaned and tested each time.

"We're in contact with Ms Moore and will continue to resolve any issues that arise."
