Recently, I have seen more and more incidents of petty theft from Norwich's cafés, pubs and restaurants pop up on my social media feeds and it has got to stop.

Most of the British public would condemn someone sneaking in after hours to an establishment and swiping cash from the tills.

However, for some reason, many people think it is acceptable to take interesting-looking cups and glasses, artwork and other curiosities when dining or drinking out.

This is no different from taking money out of the till, especially amid the cost of living crisis as every penny really does count.

In Norwich, we are a city full of vibrant independent businesses and the saying 'use it or lose it' also involves not taking their property.

A recent incident of this was at the popular burger and fried chicken joint Bubba Kitchen in White Lion Street, where two people took some of their artwork while having a meal there.

Fortunately, this backfired on them as clear CCTV images were posted on social media, leading to their mum having to return the items as they were too embarrassed.

This is not an isolated incident and it is becoming increasingly common.

Charlotte Gurney of White House Farm in Sprowston recently issued a plea for people to stop swiping their decorated coffee cups.

She posted on social media: "It is a touch disheartening - why would anyone want a dirty coffee cup in their handbag?

"Plus, our team really loves washing up and when we are busy and we are out of cups it can get a tad stressful.

"So even if you are tempted, pretty please leave our pottery for someone else to enjoy."

We all know the advert - you wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a handbag and so on.

So please, if you haven't paid for it then leave it where it is.
