University bosses have criticised "abhorrent" slogans graffitied on a campus building.

Staff at the University of East Anglia (UEA) discovered two politically charged tags spray-painted on Lasdun Wall on Monday, both sporting antisemitic sentiments.

One reads "Judaism opposes Zionism" and the other states "Zionism=Colonialism", in an apparent reference to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

A UEA spokesman confirmed staff will remove the graffiti as quickly as possible and "will not tolerate" hate crimes of any kind.

"We recognise that members of our diverse community will hold different perspectives but all members of UEA have a right to access campus and to study and work without intimidation or fear."

It comes as the Norwich university battles rising cases of politically charged incidents, including comments made on social media and at an on-campus event.
