An award-winning Norfolk business is running steam train day trips from Norwich and Thetford as part of its 2024 programme.

The Railway Touring Company is based in King's Lynn and it has been operating for more than 27 years.

It has built a strong reputation for its mainline steam day trips and specialist holidays in the UK, Europe and beyond.

It organises more than 70 days out every year involving the best of Britain's preserved steam locomotives, harking back to the golden age of rail travel. 

The 2024 programme includes two trips that depart from Norwich Station and they also stop in Thetford, March and Peterborough. 

The first is The Worcester Steam Express on Saturday, April 6, which will be hauled by the magnificent Jubilee class locomotive 45596 Bahamas.

It will take passengers on a return journey to Worcester and places to visit there include its 12th-century cathedral and the Museum of Royal Worcester with a huge porcelain collection. 

The second trip is The Stratford Flyer on Saturday, September 7, which will go to Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford Upon Avon.

When you arrive, you can see the Bard’s New Place home and world-renowned theatre or enjoy a boat trip on the River Avon.

On both journeys, there is the choice of standard class, first class or premier dining tickets.

The Railway Touring Company’s 2024 UK holidays include new itineraries exploring Derbyshire, Yorkshire and southern England’s heritage railways, as well as rail-themed tours of Scotland, the Lake District and Ireland.

The Railway Touring Company was also chosen as the National Railway Museum’s partner for mainline days out last year to mark the centenary of the Flying Scotsman.

It was named the UK’s best small travel company for rail holidays for the third year running, as voted for by travellers, at the 2023 British Travel Awards.
