A woman who stabbed her husband in the back after he found her in bed with another man has been spared jail.

Amanda Betts, 47, was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, for the attack on her estranged spouse, Gavin.

Norwich Crown Court heard the couple were separated at the time, with Betts banned from contacting her husband following a previous domestic incident.

But they both ignored the condition and continued to see each other.

The attack happened when Mr Betts went to his wife's home, in Bradwell, near Great Yarmouth, to check if her father, who had been in hospital, was okay.

But as he turned to leave the address, Betts picked up the weapon and stabbed him in the back.

He suffered a partially punctured lung in the attack.

Betts, of Howard's Way in Bradwell, appeared in court last month having admitted an offence of wounding with intent.

The attack happened on May 30 and Will Carter, mitigating, said she had "already served the equivalent of eight months in custody"  before being sentenced.

He said Betts had "pretty well stopped drinking" and apart from having had a glass on Christmas Day "doesn't drink".

Mr Carter said whatever the rights and wrongs, both the victim as well as the defendant had been meeting each other despite the order being in place.Norwich Evening News: Judge Anthony BateJudge Anthony Bate (Image: Newsquest)In addition to the suspended sentence, Judge Anthony Bate ordered Betts to do 25 days Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) and 120 hours unpaid work.

The issue of whether a restraining order is to be imposed was adjourned to another date.
