Councillors have blasted a pair of giant digital advertising boards on the edge of the city centre and called for City Hall to halt similar schemes.

The JCDecaux screens in Koblenz Avenue have sparked fury among Green city councillors, with one describing them as an "obnoxious blight" which illuminates the area 24/7.

And it seems the row could kickstart a debate about the city council's policy regarding digital billboards, as Norwich Greens demands the authority stop plans for more screens across the Fine City.

Josh Worley, councillor for Thorpe Hamlet, said: "These incredibly obnoxious advertising screens blight locals with round-the-clock light pollution and use up immense amounts of energy unnecessarily.

“Green councillors have been asking for updates to the council’s development management policy with regards to digital billboards.

"Norwich Greens will continue to push for council policy to be amended to stop any more being installed in our city.”

The displays are outside the Big Yellow Self Storage site, near Carrow Road stadium, and do not face any housing.

When asked to comment on the dispute, Norwich City Council declined to comment.

"Pretty gutted," Mr Worley also wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"The two new JCDecaux digital ad screens on Koblenz Ave have been on 24/7 for a week or so, and all they've shown is some incredibly audacious climate change ad, a picture saying that this is a new JCDecaux screen and ads for their art thing."

Both the city council and JCDecaux declined to comment on the issue.
