Why have blue notices appeared on trees near Norwich Castle?

Norwich City Council has confirmed it will be chopping down and replacing 13 trees in Castle Gardens.

The authority has been forced to take action due to the impacts of the extreme heatwave in the summer of 2022.

A city council spokesman said: "Following the unprecedented summer heatwave [two years ago], the council’s parks and open spaces team have been closely monitoring a number of trees in Castle Green Park which unfortunately have died.

"They will now be replaced as part of our regular tree maintenance programme.

"The conditions in Castle Green Park are challenging for trees because of the shallow soil there, and this will only get worse with the climate emergency making summers hotter and drier in Norwich.

"Planting the right trees in the right place is so important and we will ensure the replacement trees in Castle Green Park are able to thrive in our warming climate."

Works are expected to be completed within the next six weeks.
