A busy road in the city outskirts will be closed for more than two months for major gasworks.

West End, in Costessey, will close on February 19 until April 30 while Cadent carries out a mains replacement project which is "likely" to cause delays.

It will be shut from the junction with Longwater Lane to Brickfield Loke for a distance of 1,142m but work will be undertaken in 200-metre stages.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times, as well as access to residential areas and properties.

The works were initially scheduled to begin next Monday and run until March 15 but this was postponed to allow the weather to improve, according to council sources.

The road was previously at the forefront of locals' concerns who claimed it had long been used as a "rat run" between the A47 and the NDR and called for Norfolk County Council to put up a speed camera.

In January 2022, a speed camera was finally erected which joined speed bumps and a limit of 20mph to curb speeding drivers and limit rat-running.
