A suspected drink driver has caused at least £30,000 worth of damage to a city business after ploughing into the front of its office.

Police were called to Pure Physiotherapy, in City Road, shortly after 7pm on Saturday, December 23 after a grey VW Golf crashed into the premises and was later found in Cyprus Street.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving, as well as failing to stop at the scene and failing to report an accident. After questioning, he was released on bail until March 24.

Phin Robinson, who founded Pure Physiotherapy in 2006, said he is "absolutely gutted" about the incident after getting a message from one of his team.

The 44-year-old said: "I was shocked - someone could have been killed.

"The damage has been done to our operations hub, where we manage a lot of our UK team from, so it's affected our ability to run the clinics.

"With all desks, monitors and structural issues caused by the crash, there's at least £30,000 worth of damage done.

"It's been a nightmare because someone's apparent over-indulgence and recklessness has led to a miserable period for us at a time when you just want to try and relax.

"To be honest I'm absolutely gutted."

Mr Robinson added he's thankful to have his team help rally around the situation, with staff working from home and helping to remove some of the wreckage, but admitted the next couple of months would be difficult.

The clinical director said: "The impact won't be fully felt until next week but we'll do the best we can to help patients.

"Had anyone been walking along the pavement at the time, or if any patients or staff were still in the building, they would have been killed."

Mr Robinson confirmed that the clinical services in Adelaide Street and the clinic in City Road, next to where the incident happened, are still operating.
