Drone images show flooding across the Norfolk Broads

The images show high water levels in Hickling, Martham and Postwick as river levels have risen after recent rainfall. 

Two flood alerts remain in place across the county for the Hundred Foot (Ouse) Washes including Welney and Salters Lode as well as the rivers Bure, Ant and Thurne affecting Wroxham, Horning and Potter Heigham.

"This is due to a natural tide-locking effect, where high tidal water moving up the rivers from Great Yarmouth restricts the normal drainage out to sea at low tide.

Flooding in Martham (Image: Mike Page)"The Broads are also impacted by river flows and high groundwater levels, meaning that the tide-locking effect is taking longer to clear."

Heavy rainfall is expected in Norfolk this week as Storm Gerrit hits the UK.
