The future of Norwich's walk-in centre has been secured following the collapse of the organisation previously in charge.

North Norfolk Primary Care, an alliance of GP practices, has been awarded a caretaker contract to take over the centre on Rouen Road.

It will see the organisation absorb the contract held by One Norwich Practices, which was due to run the facility until March 2025, when it is due to be recommissioned.

The arrangement also sees North Norfolk Primary Care take on the 10,000-strong patient list of the GP practice on the walk-in centre site and the vulnerable adults' service.

It comes following the collapse of One Norwich Practices, which revealed in October that financial struggles had forced it to relinquish the contracts for several services in the region.

Meanwhile, Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust has been awarded a caretaker contract to provide another of these services - the lymphedema service - until April 2026.

James Leeming, CEO of NNPC, said: "We recognise that this has been a difficult time for the staff in the Norwich-based services and we are pleased to have reached agreement on the contract.

"We have a vast arrange of knowledge and experience in healthcare and we are keen to ensure that services across Norwich continue and patients receive high-quality care."

Meanwhile, bosses are continuing to search for providers for other contracts held by ONP, which include a weight management service, home GP visits and school asthma screenings.

Mark Burgis, of NHS Norfolk and Waveney, said: "We know this has been an incredibly difficult time for all staff and I would like to thank all staff at One Norwich Practices for all they continue to do.

"Regardless of whether the ICB directly holds that contract, or it sits elsewhere, we want to support as many staff as possible to stay employed in our local healthcare system where their skills and expertise are greatly needed and highly valued."
