Plans for dozens more homes on the southern outskirts of Norwich have been approved.

Some 51 new houses will now be built in Cringleford after being granted permission by South Norfolk Council’s (SNC) development committee, having first been proposed five years ago.

The homes are part of a much larger development which will ultimately see 350 homes go up on the site.

The whole development covers 55 acres of grade three agricultural land and will include 2,500 square meters of commercial space.

The latest scheme is included in two applications, one covering 22 homes and another for 29, both on the same site off Newmarket Road, south of the A11.

Both were approved in principle in 2017, with the latest application covering “reserved matters”, such as appearance, layout and scale.

The applicant was submitted by Big Sky Developments, a company wholly owned by SNC.

Ahead of Wednesday’s development committee meeting, SNC officials recommended the plans for approval, saying they met with council policies and will not harm the “character or appearance of the area”.

Both bids were unanimously approved by councillors.
