One of the highlights of the festive season will see the city illuminated with dazzling displays.

Here is all you need to know ahead of the Norwich Christmas lights switch-on 2023.

When is the switch-on?

The Christmas lights switch-on will take place this evening (November 16) in front of City Hall.

The event will run from 5.30pm to 7.15pm but the lights will be turned on at 7pm.

Festivities will continue later into the evening as many Norwich Market stalls will remain open until 8pm for food and shopping.

Who is turning on the lights?

West End performer Millie O'Connell will be turning on the lights.

She was one of the original queens in the hit musical Six and will be starring in the upcoming Norwich Theatre Royal pantomime Sleeping Beauty

O'Connell will be singing All I Want For Christmas with the theatre’s 12-strong Junior Ensemble and panto fairies-in-training.

What entertainment will be available?

There will be live music and dance performances, gymnastic displays and a funfair in Gentleman's Walk.

The Garage and the Invidia Choir will be among those performing.

Father Christmas will also be making an appearance at the event.

Are there any road closures in place?

St Peters Street, Millennium Plain and Bethel Street from its junction with the Forum Car park to its junction with St Peters Street will be closed to vehicles between 8am and 11pm.

Will the Tunnel of Light be returning?

The Tunnel of Light has been cancelled this year due to redevelopment taking place in Hay Hill over the festive period.

The tunnel will not be relocated in 2023 as Norwich BID said there is "no other suitable location" in the city centre.

Do I need to buy a ticket?

No, the event is completely free and no tickets are required.

The accessible viewing area is now fully booked.
