A man has been taken to hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in the city centre.

Emergency services were called to reports of a man falling down steps in Orford Hill at around 10.20pm on Friday.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said the man was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

An area outside Jack's Jewellers, opposite Primark in White Lion Street, was taped off and there was a police officer standing guard.

Forensic investigators were also at the scene ahead of the cordon being lifted at lunchtime on Saturday.

Someone working nearby, who asked not to be named, said earlier this morning: "There is a load of tissues and stuff with what looks to be blood on outside the jewellers and a policeman sat in a car.

"Looks like there's some blood on the floor outside Five Guys too, so something happened last night."
