The city is being taken over by spooky, tasty creatures this Halloween as a cafe unleashes its freakishly delicious bakes for a short time.

Tofurei has been the talk of the city in recent months, with their bakes that make visitors say ‘wow, that's vegan?’ and their locally sourced and made tofu.

They’ve even worked with top TV chefs The Hairy Bikers.

Now, owner Jenny Coupland has created her most ghoulish treat to date in the form of biscuits and pies with haunting faces.

Customers are already really enjoying the unusual and creepy faces, and Jenny shows no sign of slowing down.

She said: “I was making gingerbread men and had some leftover dough that I thought I’d bake as a round biscuit to eat, rather than waste it.

“Then I just poked some eyeholes into it as it was face-shaped and thought, well, it needs a mouth and a mouth needs teeth and because I have a warped mind, the haunted biscuit was born.”

And since putting them out for sale, staff have been really enjoying seeing customers' faces when they lay eyes on them.

Jenny said: “We make most things from scratch so the whole process is time-consuming, but the result is really worth it - so satisfying to see the look of a mixture of horror and bemusement on customers’ faces.”

The Halloween treats will be haunting the St Gregorys Alley shop until October 31 and thereafter will be available on special request for those who are in the spooky spirit all year round.

Janny said: “We will also be making The Spice Ghouls, an Autumn-spiced ghost brownie as well as skull-inspired chocolate cakes and cursed cherry and custard pies.

“There should be quite a spectre-cle over the Halloween week.”
