With Post Offices closing around the city, folk who have been clamouring for a place to deal with their delivery needs now have access to a new branch.

A "new type of Post Office" has opened in The Paddocks inside hardware shop Allsorts, on the outskirts of the city.

Norwich North MP Chloe Smith said she is "thrilled" about the opening.

In a letter addressed to neighbours in the area Natalie Liff, propositions manager for the Post Office, said: "We have introduced a lighter, flexible branch format called 'Drop and Collect'.

"Consumer habits have been changing and the popularity of online shopping has transformed the market.

"So the new 'Drop and Collection' at Allsorts, will offer Post Office services from a handheld device, providing convenient access for customers to bill payments and prepaid parcel collections and returns."

However the branch will not provide "more complex services like personal and business banking."

In a post on Facebook Chloe Smith shared the news, saying: "I'm thrilled to announce the grand opening of a brand new Post Office branch right in the heart of our neighbourhood.

"This new Post Office branch is here to make your life more convenient. 

"It will provide a wide range of postal and financial services, from sending parcels to paying bills, handling your banking needs and so much more."

Ms Liff believes the new branch and service will "strengthen the Post Office brand."

She added: "We hope to improve the ability to compete for additional business from new carriers.

"We hope that the local community will the Post Office network in their area."
