A karting prodigy is dreaming of racing his way to the big time after winning another national title at the tender age of eight.

Chester Forkes, from Stratton Strawless, “lives and breathes racing” according to his dad, Mathew.

He practises regularly at Ellough Park in Beccles and travels around the country to compete in national competitions.

Matthew said: “Chester practises at home on a simulator so he is always thinking about racing and is a huge fan of F1 and watches racing all the time."

Chester competes in the Super One Series, whose former racers include F1 greats such as Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and David Coulthard.

His school, Hevingham Primary, makes sure to support him through his racing career by giving him homework to keep him up to date as he travels to circuits around the country.

However, this season saw a change in class from the Bambino Comer C50 class to the faster Bambino Iame class.

Although victorious in the C50 class the year prior, the move to the Iame class would see races take place under both wet and dry conditions, and top speeds increase from 45mph to 55mph.

Despite this, Chester, upon completing his final race on Sunday (August 27), has finished the series 70 points clear of his nearest competitor, with around 20 youngsters competing across the season.

He always finished sixth or higher and had 26 podium positions across 36 races - finishing on the top step on 16 occasions.

In October Chester will move into the next category, the cadets, containing eight to 12-year-olds, and will compete in the Motorsport UK British Kart Championship in 2024.

Matthew added: “Chester has shown all the signs of a future champion and has demonstrated skills beyond his years on the track. Who knows what the future holds.”

However, he added that if Chester was asked about his hopes he would simply respond: “F1.”
