A cafe that was facing closure earlier this year has been kept open after its managers secured its future.

Janey’s in Mill Road, Hethersett is a popular village cafe serving all the classics such as tea, cake, scampi and chips and other home-cooked meals.

It has been busy since the pandemic under the guidance of mother and son duo David Dawson, 39, and Jane Dawson, 64.

And now they will get to continue at the heart of their community.

David said: “Earlier in the year the owner of the property would not renew our lease as he wanted to sell the building.

“We were very worried for ourselves and the staff job security, but we also worried about our customers who rely on our delivery service or use of the cafe.

“With the property being sold we didn’t know if our lease would be terminated.”

With so many elderly people relying on the services of the cafe, Jane and David were concerned that if they lost their business many people in the village would go without a home-cooked meal.

But in July the team at Janey’s were happy to announce they had acquired the lease and that the cafe was secure for the future.

David said: “We have had the building in Hethersett for eight years, this year we secured the lease for ourselves by purchasing the property in its entirety.

“We now get to decide how long with are in situ.”

The staff have not yet had the chance to celebrate, though they hope to have a party, but for now they are happy knowing they can continue serving their community for years to come.

David added: “Everyone should come and try Janey’s, we are a small business that always gets positive feedback from customers.”
