A legendary Norfolk burger restaurant will soon be on the road again with it's new food van.

Zaks American Diner has spent two years and tens of thousands of pounds building a new food truck, which will be serving up a selection of burgers, sides and chilli and nachos at events in and around Norfolk.

Luci, the 1978 P30 Step Van, will join the business' other two trailers Lil Blue and Big Red, to "take Zaks to the people".

All the vans have names and characters, says owner Chris Carr, and Luci is short of Lucifer - matching her quite literal fiery exterior and "devil" personality.

Red flames adorn the truck and the back end is plastered with bespoke stickers designed based on items from the menu.

Zaks, which was taken over by Ian Hacon and Chris Carr just before Covid struck in early 2020, is remembered fondly by many for its original mobile van.

The van used to park up in Farmers Avenue in Norwich in the 1970s when Zaks founder, musician and entrepreneur Harvey Platt served up burgers wrapped in foil for the equivalent of 50p.

These days Zaks has two Norwich branches as well as its diner in Poringland and the Yankee Traveller which opened in Great Yarmouth last year.

Mr Carr said: "We wanted something we can jump in and drive to an event and have more flexibility on where we go.

"At Zaks we don't like to do things by halves. We essentially have got a restaurant on wheels and visit places where people don't usually get out to Zaks."

Luci will be launched at VW Whitenoise festival at the Norfolk Showground this weekend.
