The lead on environmental issues for the Church of England has backed a city centre church's step into the 21st century.
St Peter Mancroft Church, near Norwich Market, submitted the application to the city council on July 20 with the panels to be placed on the south aisle roof, on the Hay Hill side.
Rev Graham Usher, the bishop of Norwich and lead bishop on environmental issues for the Church of England, said: "One of my key priorities as the Church of England's lead bishop on environment is developing our plans to get our buildings to net zero carbon by 2030.

"I'm delighted to see St Peter Mancroft applying for planning permission for solar panels, along with other churches in the Diocese of Norwich.
"I hope that their addition will add to a new chapter to these churches' long history of architectural and technological innovation.
"Responding to the climate and biodiversity emergencies is not an optional interest for the ministry of the Church, it is an imperative for the mission of God's Church."
The consultation is due to end on August 17 with a target of a decision being made by September 14.
