A tired-looking town sign has been replaced after neighbours had raised concerns about its shoddy condition.

The dislike of the sign in Costessey was raised last year by those living nearby and now the new Town House Road sign, near the junction with Myrtle Avenue, has been unveiled.

Vivienne Bell from the Costessey Society led the project. She said: “Members of the Costessey Society put forward a proposal which was approved by the town council for refurbishment of the sign with zero cost to the council.

“On Saturday, July 1 the sign was officially unveiled by Costessey Society member Mrs Millie Wyatt.

“Donations by the Costessey Society and Costessey Memories group enabled the employment of specialist painter Steve Harodd, who recently repainted the Drayton village sign and has also done work at Norwich Cathedral.

“Costessey builder David Bates and Jay Cararra, proprietor of Jays Total Waste Management, both gave their time and expertise complementary.”

The sign is now in situ ready to welcome visitors to the town.
