Plans for a former school that has been the target of two arson attacks in seven years have been approved.

The former Langley Preparatory School building in Yarmouth Road, Thorpe St Andrew, will be converted into a Stantec storage and distribution centre until 2025.

But despite the application being given the green light, the site continues to be earmarked for a large housing development that could see the establishment of up to 90 homes.

These proposals have been in place since 2013 and the developers have previously been accused of 'land banking' - purchasing land but not building on it.

The Beech Hill site was occupied by Langley Preparatory School until it merged with Taverham Hall Preparatory School in 2016.

Since then, it has been the victim of two arson attacks - one in 2018 and the other in 2020.

An application from developers Stantec in 2020 secured permission for the building to be used for storage and distribution over a temporary period of two years - expiring on July 24, 2022.
