A sinking manhole cover has finally been fixed after half a decade of disagreements about who was responsible for repair work.

Located outside the Costessey branch of Taverham Vets in Longwater Lane, the cover has been a danger spot for passers-by and commuters visiting with poorly pets.

But after years of uncertainty, the manhole cover is looking as good as new after it was fixed late last week.

Gary and Sharon Blundell, councillors for the Costessey area, took up the mantle to get to the bottom of whose responsibility it was to fix the manhole, with Norfolk County Council in dispute with Virgin Media.

Gary said: "It's sometimes the smallest things that actually feel like the biggest achievement.

"For five years Taverham Vets have been trying to get someone to listen to get this issue sorted.

"After approaching myself and Sharon, the issue has finally been resolved.

"It should not need multiple contacts with different organisations to get simple issues rectified and this issue was finally fixed after the Evening News got involved.

"That isn't acceptable, but we're over the moon this has finally been sorted."

Jenny Cory-Wright, lead vet at Taverham Vets, said: "We're thrilled that the drain cover has finally been replaced by Virgin Media after roughly five years of chasing, by ourselves and Mr and Mrs Blundell.

"We've been worried about clients and passers-by slipping, or tripping, on the uneven surface and the risk of it giving way altogether."
