League-winning footballers from a city school rolled back the years as they reunited for the first time in 40 years.

Most of Falcon Middle School's 1978/79 champions had not seen each other since their triumph, but that all changed after a Facebook post earlier in the month.

One of the players, Jason Wilson, posted a picture of the team on a Sprowston Facebook page asking if any of his teammates were in the group. Stuart Dann replied and together the pair set about finding the rest of the squad.

Together the pair were able to get 12 players together for Saturday's reunion, with some absent due to other commitments, and now they are planning to make it a yearly event.

Mr Dann, 55, said: "When it was posted, me and another lad saw it and then it all just snowballed from there.

"Apart from one or two I recognised nearly all of them instantly which was incredible given it has been about 40 years.

"Some people hadn't changed at all, while others had changed completely.

"It was all quite surreal but it was really good.

"We were a really good team and all good lads.

"We put a picture of us all back together on social and it's had loads of attention from people saying how nice it was to see."

Many of the players continued to play football together as they moved up to Sprowston High.

Mr Dann, who has lived in Sprowston for 38 years and works in IT for Aviva, said plans are already afoot for the next meet-up, which he hopes will see more players attend.

Following the reunion at the Blue Boar pub, he added: "We have to get together again, ideally we'd like to start doing this on a yearly basis."
