After completing their first year at the University of East Anglia, Sophie Brooks asked students new to the area what they think of Norwich.

Students from across the country come to the UEA to experience the Fine City, but what is so special to them and where are the student hotspots?

Maddy McNiven is from Cambridge and studies broadcast and multimedia journalism.

“There are so many stupidly cute bars and shops as well as lakes and fields around and outside the campus. I rarely miss a Saturday night out," said Maddy.

"I’ve got memories of being hit on the head with a VK bottle but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

"I always say to my family that Norwich is a perfect mix for students; easy to go out and have fun and then get back in touch with nature with a hangover.”

Tom Groves is from Southend and studies history with politics.

He said: “As a musician I’d done a couple of gigs here, there’s a great arts scene in Norwich and the area around it. It has a ‘local vibe’ that I enjoyed on my first visit here.

"The best thing to me is probably the number of pubs, my favourite being the Lamb Inn. They tend to do the best pint of Guinness, a real sticking point for me.”

“Norwich feels like a safe city and was a new start for me. In sunny months, all the outside spaces make it a lovely place to be," he said.

"The best place to go out has to be the Loft. There’s usually a long queue but it’s always a laugh. Once I played trivia with a bunch of strangers.”
