A picturesque village on the outskirts of Norwich is being blighted by litter being left strewn across the riverbank.

Every summer, many people flock to Bawburgh to sit alongside the River Yare, with the most popular spot on the green opposite The Kings Head pub in Harts Lane.

Despite there being bins there, some visitors have been leaving their rubbish across the grass and this has included discarded towels, disposable barbecues, cans and crisp packets.

People have even been seen chucking rubbish in the river itself.

A Bawburgh local, who did not wish to be named, said: "It has been a long-term problem that gets worse in the summer with people throwing McDonald's rubbish out their car windows through the village.

"We also get people in mopeds revving and wheel spinning outside people's houses."

Fortunately, team members from The Kings Head have been out every night with bin bags clearing the rubbish - something they should not have to do.

The village has also had several instances of fly-tipping in recent months.
