A historic pub in the Norfolk Broads has been rebranded after undergoing a transformation costing more than £200,000.

Since at least the 1700s, the Salhouse watering hole in Lower Street has been known as The Bell.

But after a recent period of decline, the team hope to give it a new lease of life and a fresh start with a new name - The Stag.

The pub has been renovated by developers Lester and Katie Bayfield, of Salhouse Hall, with "no corner left untouched" according to a spokesman for the boozer.

"We are really looking forward to opening and welcoming customers," he said.

"It has taken a lot of work over the last six months. Everything has been stripped back and every inch has been refurbished, which is what the pub needed.

"We have enhanced its original features such as wooden beams while also bringing it up to a modern specification.

"No other pub in Norfolk will have this look and feel, it still maintains the traditional heritage of the building but the finish is next level."

The Bell, as it was previously known, had been on the market since 2021, after the previous landlord had decided to sell up after facing health problems.

It is situated close to Wroxham and the River Bure, an idyllic spot in the Norfolk Broads.

The spokesman added: "The reason for the name change is that we believe it is a new start for the pub.

"We want to create a fresh brand and build a completely new reputation for the business.

"We want to ensure everyone who visits comes away after having a special experience while also getting value for many."

The Stag will open to customers on June 10 from 11am.
