A popular market stall that serves American-style dishes has collaborated with an NR3 pub for a new permanent venture.

The Bodega will be expanding to The Cottage, in Silver Road, after a successful first year on Norwich Market.

A bodega in New York is a 24-hour convenience store with a deli where people come for affordable food including sandwiches and burgers.

Burgers at The Cottage will feature paprika fried chicken with guacamole, hash brown, buffalo sauce and kebab chillies, and one with spiced onion bhajis, mint raita, mango chutney and cauliflower hash browns.

The Bodega is located at stall 175 and is owned by Edd Watkinson, 30, who lives in the city.

"The Cottage is one of my favourite pubs," he said. "The atmosphere in NR3 has changed so much recently and the food has got so good.

"People are out to have a good time and there is such a casual vibe in the area.

"Both the pop-up events we did at the pub sold out and it was crazy how busy they were.

"It felt like people obviously wanted this in the area, so as a local, it felt like the logical next move.

"We are all close within the food scene and I know the guys at The Cottage really well, as well as at The Yard and other places.

"I've never felt as excited about Norwich as I do now."

The move comes after a recent collaboration with The Garnet pub, where they serve food from 5pm to 9pm every Friday.

The Cottage front-of-house is run by Richard O'Brian, previously of Hawthorns cocktail bar, and Ben Gibbins will be the chef while Mr Watkinson splits his time with the market stall.

The Bodega at The Cottage will be open Thursday and Friday, from 5pm to 9pm and Saturday, from 2pm to 9pm.

There will be a launch party with DJs this Sunday (May 28) from midday.
