A young dog's life is in jeopardy unless she gets the vital treatment she needs.

The owners of four-year-old Winifred, Haritha and David Richardson, from Cringleford, could have to pay out anything in excess of £5000 after their "little girl" was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

"She was diagnosed with TVT, which is a cancer that has a good prognosis," said Haritha.

"She needs to undergoe chemotherapy and the vets are very positive.

"But we can't afford this treatment ourselves so we've set up a GoFundMe in the hope that it might reach kind-hearted people who might be able to help."

Winifred (better known as Winnie), a mixed-breed dog from Romania, spent the majority of her life on the streets and before being matched with the Richardsons by a rescue in March of this year.

But their excitement soon turned to horror when they discovered large lumps around her neck.

After numerous tests, Winnie was found to have round cell cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes.

"The moment we saw her we knew she was exactly what we were looking for," said Haritha - who also has a whippet and two cats.

"She rolled over for cuddles and demanded I pet her.

"Winifred has only just been given a place to call home so we want to do our very best to keep her safe."

So far, the couple have managed to raise £1,400 - but they hope to reach their target "before the cancer spreads to a point where nothing can be done".

The pair also remain in contact with their insurance broker in the hope something can be done - an outcome that would see them return the funds to donors.

"We know there is a cost of living crisis and understand not everyone can contribute financially.

"But just sharing the story will help.

"If we could raise this money it would everything.

"She's such a lovely girl and we just want to give her the life she deserves."
