A post office inside a pub on the outskirts of Norwich is to close due to financial pressures amid the cost of living crisis.

The Eaton Post Office, based inside The Cellar House, will soon close with the news announced in a post on social media.

It first opened inside the pub in February 2016 when the village postmaster retired.

The statement said: "It is with deep regret that we find ourselves unable to continue operating Eaton Post Office.

"The pressures of recruitment, rising costs and falling commission from the Post Office organisation mean that it is no longer financially viable.

"The pub has to remain our priority and it can no longer subsidise the Post Office."

Until a final closing date is confirmed, it will be open on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am to 1.30pm and 2pm to 5pm and on Fridays from 10am to 2pm only.

The statement added: "Pease treat my bar team with respect. Abuse will not be tolerated as has previously been directed at them."

The closure will not impact the operation of The Cellar House pub, which is owned by Victoria and Grahame Macdonald - also at the helm of The Green Dragon in Wymondham and Old Ram in Tivetshall St Mary.
