A disabled woman has been left exhausted and in pain after being told to "grin and bear it" as a torrent of water leaked into her flat for days.

Louise Prior, who has ME, attempted to stop the flow by using bin bags to direct the water into buckets as it seeped through electrical sockets and ran down the walls of her council-managed flat in Godric Place since Thursday (May 15).

The following day Norwich City Services workers struggled to find the stopcock to turn the water off for hours while the leak from the flat above continued, leaving her saturated property damaged.

The 48-year-old said: "It has been a nightmare.

"It has taken a huge toll on me and I've been left exhausted and in pain."

An Anglian Water engineer finally located the stopcock for them at 5pm on Friday.

But Ms Prior was told she would have to wait until Monday before the workers could return to fix the leak, leaving the flood to continue for two more days.

Council workers returned yesterday, replacing some pipes and adding a new tap to turn off the supply of water in her Earlham flat.

But Ms Prior is still none the wiser as to whether the issue has been fixed.

She added: "It was a comedy of errors really and I have been left in the dark as to what is happening.

"I asked the supervisor whether the leak was fixed but he refused to answer me.

"Surely this was an emergency and they should have found a temporary fix as soon as possible.

"I've had no help to deal with the aftermath either."

Ms Prior has been laid up in bed suffering from migraines and severe pain during the ordeal.

Norwich City Council has been approached for comment.
