"I'll never forget that night. There was a real atmosphere and you could tell they were on to big things."

These are the words of 77-year-old Glenys Ives-Keeler who was among the crowds that witnessed The Beatles' one and only Norwich show six decades ago.

This Wednesday marks the 60th anniversary of when John, Paul, George and Ringo got city folk dancing at the Grosvenor Rooms in Prince of Wales Road in 1963.

More than 1,700 people danced the night away as they played future hits before popping across the road for a spot of fish and chips with their fans.

Mrs Ives-Keelercan still remembers the night clearly, when the foursome played classics including Twist and Shout, Please Please Me and From Me To You.

She said: "I was 17 at the time and being quite short, I couldn't see much but luckily I found a chair to stand on so I could watch the show.

"They were quite new then but it was packed. There was a real atmosphere in the crowd. I bought my ticket for only seven shillings and sixpence and I believe they only got paid £250 for the show."

Another attendee, Mary Jeeves, met the quartet backstage.

"My friend Sandra and I went to their dressing room," she said. "My memory is Paul and John were very chatty and friendly. George was much quieter but lovely. We got their autographs after."

To celebrate the anniversary, community radio station Future Radio is hosting a day of Beatles-themed shows, including audio that may have been recorded at the concert itself.

Nigel Pearce, The Beatles expert and co-presenter of the Groove Britain Beatles Special, said: "The Beatles have had an immeasurable impact on music and popular culture and we're excited to pay tribute to their legacy with a day of programming dedicated to their music.
