Plans to build a new 5G mast in a busy junction have been given the go-ahead despite calls to move it in order to stop it from obscuring drivers' views.

The new 17m pole will now be erected in the junction between Boundary Road and Drayton Road in Norwich's NR6 area despite fresh concerns it will block a road sign.

When an application for the mast was lodged by CK Hutchinson Networks in March, road boffins said they would rather the mast did not obstruct the view of traffic and suggested alternative places where it would not be as visible to passing cars.

But it appears the mast will be built in the space it was originally planned for, with the county council's highways team adding that they were concerned it would obscure a road sign on the approach to the junction.

Despite the issues, the highways team said it did not object to the pole.

The mast received one public objection raising health and safety concerns, but an independent document accompanying plans confirmed there was no evidence to suggest 5G can be detrimental to health.
