A conservation group is investigating the deaths of two newly hatched peregrine falcons and a third that failed to hatch at Norwich Cathedral.

The Hawk and Owl Trust, which monitors the birds roosting in the building's spire and live streams their nest, said that the "facts are unknown about the cause of their death" adding that they will not "speculate".

It has also suspended its live camera and watchpoint until it knows why the birds have died.

Previously, officials from the group have said peregrines rarely die of old age due to the fact they regularly get into scrapes with other animals and birds as predators.

The statement, posted on Facebook on Wednesday (May 10), read: "We are sad to announce that the two hatched Peregrines have died, and the third egg has not hatched.

"As the facts are unknown about the cause of their death, nor will we speculate, the appropriate authorities have been informed.

"We will issue a further statement once the facts have been established."

Previous incidents have seen birds die after flying into parked cars and fighting with other birds.
