An exciting landmark is being celebrated by a city gym as an expansion adds another exercise option for local people with disabilities.

Able2B is based on the Gilchrist Industrial Estate in Tuckswood and was founded in 2016 by city boxing star Jon Thaxton and consultant orthopaedic surgeon Rachael Hutchinson.

The centre is open to those with disabilities and has worked with ages from three up to 94.

The gym is holding a grand opening day on Saturday between 9am and 3pm to celebrate the progress, as its Swim Spa Rooom is officially unveiled for water-based training.

Co-founder Rachael said: "It hasn't sunk in yet. The whole thing just started as an idea, but we are just keeping up with the speed of demand, so it shows how needed the services are."

Able2B also runs a frame running club for disabled runners, an adapted massage service, rebound therapy services and a new rig system for people who cannot weight bear.

The gym's extension was partly funded by grants through schemes run by the government and the European Regional Development Fund.

Aiming to mix fun with therapeutic elements, Able2B combines Rachael's knowledge with the motivational skills of Jon, who was a world, European and British champion boxer and now works as a personal trainer.

The duo, who both attended Sprowston High School, are excited to see the project continuing to grow and have seen demand grow rapidly, emphasising the need for the services they offer.

Rachael continued: "The company's services are completely unique in the UK with clients travelling for as long as six hours for appointments.

"Our goal is to combine specialist gait expertise with expert personal training."

Saturday's event will feature a fundraising raffle and refreshments along with the opportunity to see the equipment in action.
