The woman who jumped from a moving car with a baby on the outskirts of Norwich remains in hospital in critical condition.

Police say the woman, in her 30s, is stable in Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, despite suffering life-changing injuries when she jumped from the blue Volvo V40 on the A1067 Fakenham Road in Taverham last Friday.

It is believed the incident happened after a family argument about the baby, which the woman was carrying when she jumped close to the Shell petrol station at about 9.54pm.

The baby was discharged from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on Tuesday.

Following the incident, those living in the suburb on the outskirts of Norwich said they were shocked after a night of "flashing blue lights".

Karen Last, who lives in Fakenham Road next to the Shell garage, said she heard "a lot of commotion" around the time of the incident.

Ms Last said: "We had an issue with lots of people turning around in our driveway, due to the road closure.

"I ended up going to bed around 1am and the services were still there - I think they finished at roughly 2am."

Taverham Parish Council chairman, Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou, added she was "horrified" by the incident.

She said: "You don't expect something like this to happen in Taverham.

"I'm shocked and only hope that the woman and child involved are all right."

Cops say they would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any dashcam footage.
