Plans for a new 420-place primary school in a rapidly growing community on the edge of Norwich have been given the go-ahead.

Norfolk County Council had applied to itself for permission for the school on land off Colney Lane in Cringleford, near the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

And officers at County Hall have used delegated powers to approve the plans.

While there had been no objections, Cringleford Parish Council raised concerns about arrangements for dropping off and collecting children.

The parish council urged a re-modelling of the entrance to the school, with a pull-in area and a one-way system for cars.

However, officers at County Hall said there was no need for changes, given the estate road had been planned to accommodate the school, with safe access built into its design.

With more than 1,300 homes planned, Cringleford is set to increase in size by more than 50pc in the coming years.

The Inspiration Trust will run the new school, earmarked to open in September 2024 for children aged four to 11.
