Little Shop of Horrors is usually on the top five of most theatre fans’ favourite musical list - and if it wasn’t before, it definitely will be after this particular production.

Full of vocals that challenge those of professional performers, classic musical theatre-style dance and fantastic characterisation, it was hard to believe this was a youth production at Norwich's Maddermarket Theatre.

Little Shop of Horrors follows the story of Seymour, who as an orphan was taken in by Mr Mushnik, the owner of a flower shop on Skid Row.

Seymour’s love interest, Audrey, is dating an abusive dentist.

Seymour finds an unusual plant which needs blood to thrive – fresh blood.

This cult classic has been expertly staged by Echo Youth Theatre.

Directed once again by Chris Davidson with musical direction by Acer Smith and choreographed by Georgia Finch – this team really put on a thrilling show.

Korben White, a big hitter at Norwich Pride events, took on the lead role of Seymour and although Korben has become very well known for his drag persona, this was him in a completely new light.

With great vocals and spot-on acting, his performance was very enjoyable.

Equally as well rounded were Orin played by Jack Rudd, Kylara Pope as Ronnete, Amy Skepelhorn as Chiffon and Mabel White as Crystal.

A special mention must go to swing Charlotte Sprot who played Audrey, Charlotte learned all female parts for the show - a true professional.

But one performer managed to get a standing ovation from the audience without appearing on stage.

Lily Matthews is the voice of Audrey two, and audible gasps could be heard when she started singing.

At just 18 years old Lily’s voice is one that would not be out of place on a West End stage, with plenty of character and skill she is one to watch.

Yet another triumph for Norwich’s finest youth group – Echo Youth Theatre.
