A city pub will reopen later this month having undergone a major revamp.

The Freemasons Arms in Hall Road went up for sale by auction in October last year and was bought for £250,000 by the new landlord.

They have now joined forces with management company Snug Hospitality to relaunch the traditional boozer, becoming the Norfolk-based team's fifth pub in its portfolio.

Daniel Pratt, managing director, said: "We are really looking forward to welcoming new and old customers to the Freemasons Arms and we hope they will enjoy the changes we have made.

"We had been looking for our first venture in the centre for a while now and were yet to find the right place.

"When the offer came up we thought it had lots of potential and seemed like an ideal opportunity."

An opening date is yet to be announced but it is hoped the first pints will be pulled by the end of April.

Work is also under way to launch a food menu this summer.

"We've been given a blank canvas to do something new here," added Mr Pratt.

"The pub is well-known for its taproom and we hope to continue this by focusing on real ales along with core modern beers on draught.

"We hope to create a really welcoming space that people can enjoy all day, whether it's for a cup of coffee or a beer."

Sug Hospitality, which also runs The Crown in Trunch and The Chequers in Hainford, is also gearing up to launch a sixth pub in the Broads, although the details are yet to be revealed.

Mr Pratt added: "We love this industry and we work really hard to make underloved pubs favourites of locals again.

"It has been a tough winter but we are confident we will see an upturn in trade and have a good summer."
