A woman left upset by someone stealing plants that were meant to raise money for charity has been left overwhelmed by the support she has received.

Carol Key, from Taverham, had teamed up with her friend Margaret Tubby to raise money for Norfolk cancer charity Lilac (Ladies in League Against Cancer).

Carol had planned to raise £1,000 by selling plants in her garden but was saddened last week when someone pulled up outside her home and took £70 worth of plants without paying.

Since sharing her story, Carol has been busy with people buying plants to show support and has had people contributing cash for nothing in return.

She said: “The support has been amazing.

“It wasn’t so much the money, it was the fact that people could steal from a cancer charity.”

Carol is hoping sharing her story means many more people will drive past her home in The Street to purchase some plants.

She said: “It has gotten the word out there about Lilac too – they do some amazing work providing cancer care for the people of Norfolk.”

Carol will continue to add more plants to her garden over the coming weeks including perennials, geraniums, grasses, hostas and much more in a bid to now raise £2,000 in spite of the thefts.
