A man banned from starting fires in the city has been given a suspended jail sentence after being caught with lighters in his pocket.

John Carman, 61, of no fixed abode, was caught on two occasions with a lighter, breaking a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) issued in October 2022.

The CBO bans Carman from starting any fires and from being in possession of any lighter or accelerant in a public place for two years.

He was also charged with possessing a sharp object following his arrest in Maidstone Road on Saturday, March 25.

He appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on March 27 where he was sentenced to 21 weeks in jail suspended for two years.
