An arcade bar is to open in a Norwich pub that has been closed for five years.

The former Prince of Wales pub is to be transformed into Barcadia, a venue offering retro arcade games such as PAC-Man, Space Invaders and Outrun, alongside cocktails and plant-based food.

The new venture is the sister business of Slice + Dice, a board game café and bar in St Benedicts Street run by Samantha Whitehouse.

The 32-year-old, who will split her time between the two businesses, has partnered with YouTuber and best-selling author Pete Leigh, 39, who has been creating videos about retro technology for six years.

The friends met when Mr Leigh's office sat above the old Slice + Dice premises and bonded over their mutual passion to open an arcade bar.

The pair will be supported by YouTubers Stuart Ashen and Daniel Brown and it is hoped the bar will open in April.

Barcadia will run on a token-based system for the games which also include Q*bert, House of the Dead and Frogger.

The menu will feature loaded hot dogs, loaded fries and loaded sweet fries and the extensive menu of cocktails will all be made from scratch.

Ms Whitehouse said: "We want to bring something a bit interesting to Prince of Wales.

"People love to drink alcohol but we have seen they love to have something to do alongside that.

"It will be the same sort of vibe as Slice + Dice and we want everyone to feel they could come in without feeling intimidated, while also being a spot for gaming fanatics.

"It is a privilege to create jobs for people in the city - and if it is a fun place to come but not to work, we have failed.

"It's been a long time coming for both of us."

You can support the venture via Ms Whitehouse and Mr Leigh's Kickstarter.
