People being urged to take part in a clean up of the River Wensum following continued fly tipping.

The event will mark World Water Day and contribute to the Keep Britain Tidy's "great British Clean."

The clean-up is set to take place at Anderson Meadow in NR3 where city folk are encouraged to just turn up and join in whether it's just for a short while or a few hours.

All help is welcomed in the plight to keep the unique chalk river clean.

Gary Champion, Green Party councillor for Sewell ward, said: "The Wensum is the heart our fine city and the River Clean event is important as it makes a tangible difference in an area of natural beauty.

“We have arranged this event before with the new growth of spring to be able to get into the bushes along the riverbank.

“An event like this is aligned with Green Party politics as it is about people and planet."

The event will also feature divers to remove rubbish from the riverbed helping wildlife and habitat within the waterways.

But people living in the city must also work harder to stop rubbish getting into the water.

This comes as a few weeks ago an entire moped was found dumped in the river and recent months found trolleys, bin bags, bicycles, and other sizeable items in the water.

The event is to keep the river clean and spread awareness.
