A winter sports hub is hoping it will create snowsports stars of the future after a crop of young talent swept the board at a prestigious competition.
Eight ski racers from Norfolk Snowsports Club in Whitlingham Lane, Trowse, competed at the English Alpine Championships in Bormio, Italy, which attracted hundreds of talented skiers ranging from eight-years-old to senior athletes.
And despite some not having much experience racing on real snow and competing against athletes who were used to the terrain, the Norfolk team was successful in the Snowsport England contest and came away with seven medals.
Isaac Cheongvee, 11, from Blofield, won the U12 overall title, and his sister, Betsy, nine, also won silver in the U10s slalom category.
Other competitors included Antonia Watson, from Hingham, who won a silver medal in the Super-G event in the U14 category, and Freddy Croft, 10, from Wymondham, who won the U10 category in the boys' slalom event.
Ian Wilson, volunteer executive director of the Norfolk Snowsports Club, said: "We'd like to create snowsports stars for the future.
"It is rare to get alpine wins when you train on a dry plastic ski slope."
The volunteer-run club, which opened more than 50 years ago, has over 2,500 members, who range from five to older adults and people with disabilities.
Mr Wilson, 44, who lives in Blofield, said there was a great family atmosphere at the club.
He added: "I'd like to think the club will get stronger. The competitions are not about winning but about making sure we do our best to represent the area well."
Former Olympic skier and club volunteer Ross Green, 45, from Chedgrave, who coached the team, said: "To achieve results like this, against racers who are spending the whole winter season on snow is quite something. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this exciting group of ski racers.”
