More mindless yobs have struck a plot of private allotments leaving owners wondering if it's worth staying.

It comes after a mum-of-two Katie Mullarkey found that her plot was the target of vandals who smashed greenhouses last week.

Helen Mandley also has a Bluebell South allotment, along The Avenues. She has had it since 2003 but says the vandalism "has got worse in the last couple of years".

The 37-year-old, who lives in Earlham Road with her two-year-old son Rowan, said: "The polytunnel I have wasn't even up a year before the side had holes slashed and stabbed into it.

"One of our greenhouses was smashed and a neighbour's shed had its windows broken.

"Whoever did it didn't even steal anything. It's vandalism for the sake of it - just mindless and unnecessary.

"It's an inconvenience in the long run and if I can't fix it myself a new polytunnel will cost between £120 and £150, so it's not cheap either.

"But if it's just going to get vandalised again it might not be worth keeping."

Mrs Mandley has contacted the police and hopes something can be done to stop the recent spate of vandalism in the area.

A police spokeswoman said: "This incident was reported to us as criminal damage.

"It happened in the Bluebell Allotments on The Avenues, Norwich, between February 10 and 15 where a polytunnel was slashed."

Mrs Mandley added: "I don't want to have to keep taking things away from the plot to stop it getting ruined.

"I've started to take my son here and I don't want him seeing or getting near piles of broken glass.

"It's a difficult fix because some plots have a higher fence but that's expensive.

"I thought about trying to hide a camera somewhere to see if it can catch anyone in the act but, again, it's costly to find one which can capture a decent image."
